On February,
13th 2011, Aditya, Jessica and I went to Jakarta for join the Short
Movie Making Competition in the 2012 Asian English Olympics held by BINUS
University. There are many people from all over Asia, such as Malaysia,
Philippine, Singapore, and Indonesia, who joining this competition. There are many
kinds of competitions held there, such as story telling, debate, speech,
scrabble, news casting, and short movie making. The first
day of competition, we got a coaching clinic by Christian Razukas. It about
tips and trick or do and don’ts in
making a short story movie. He also told us about his experience watching many
movies from all over the word, and became the judges in international film festivals.
Our Prepared Movie
The theme of movie is “A Living Hero”. The movie must be in English and English subtitled. The genre is non-animation. Our short story movie is “Everybody Can Be”

The Presentation Round
The presentation round held in February 16th 2012.
In this round, the judges watched the movie first. After that, we gave a 5
minute presentation about the inspiration, idea, the background of the movie, uniqueness
of the movie, or any other things related to the movie. The presentation must
be in English. After the presentation, the judges gave some inputs and
suggestion about the movie.
The On the spot video
Each team
made a maximum 3 minutes video during our first 3 days in the competition. The movie
can be in form documentary, commercial or any other type of video. Then the
judges will select top 5 videos that will be presented in the final day, and
voting will be conducted. The video with the most votes will be awarded the
most favorite video. Our on the spot video is “Focus Please” selected as the 5
on the spot video. Unfortunately, our video just became the first runner up favorite
video.

THE JUDGES
Lulu Ratna
Lulu Ratna Co-founded of Konfiden Foundation. Invited as the
jury member in Amnesty International-DOEN Award in Rotterdam International Film
Festival 2005, International Competition in Tampere Film Festival 2007 and
Youth New Wave International Film Festival Sri Lanka 2008. Received grants from
Asian Cultural Council in New York, USA 2003-2004 and Visiting Fellow at School
of Art Canberra, The Australian National University 2005.
Ekky Imanjaya
Ekky is an Indonesian film critic/ journalist. He is
co-founder and editor of www.rumahfilm.org,
a popular Indonesian online film journal. He graduated from a Masters Program
for Film Studies at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. He wrote some books,
including A to Z about Indonesian Films. He directed some short documentaries;
one of his documentaries, MACET, won the best Documentary Award in Bangkok,
Thailand.
Christian Razukas
Christian Razukas is a former film programmer of the Hawaii
International Film Festival and worked on eleven film festivals. He worked as a
film and video archivist in San Francisco. Razukas works as a film and video
archivist in San Francisco. Razukas works as a roving correspondent for Cinepod
and has been quoted or reference in Filmmaker Magazine, The Philippine Star, the
Philippine Inquirer, the Honolulu Weekly, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Now, Razukas also works in the Jakarta Post.
